In my article last week on WordPress vs Drupal, I gave some examples of sites built using those tools. Frankly, most of the examples I gave were sites we’d worked on. I figured I’d loop back and give examples of some exceptional sites I’ve come across (and didn’t work on) using each toolset. The goal is to show just how far you can push things using Drupal and WordPress.

Drupal

(1) New York Observer

observer

A full on newspaper website built using Drupal.

(2) Sunlight Foundation

sunlight

This is just a very elegant implementation of a community blog using Drupal.

(3) Chris Dodd for President

dodd

Presidential campaign website built using Drupal.

WordPress

(1) All Things Digital

allthingsdigital

Wall Street Journal website for Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. This may actually be WordPress Mu.

(2) Truemors

truemors

Digg-style social site built using WordPress and, one presumes, a variety of WordPress plugins.

(3) Avalonstar

avalon

This version of Avalonstar is actually no longer there. New version is nice, but I thought the old version was a great example of a site designed using WordPress that looked nothing like a traditional blog. Old screenshot is here.

If you have some good examples please leave them in the comments.
